First Annual ‘Emerging Leader Award’ aims to inspire the next generation of scientific leadership to make Lyme disease easy to diagnose and simple to cure
Portola Valley, CA – The Bay Area Lyme Foundation today announced the first annual Bay Area Lyme Foundation ‘Emerging Leader Award’ and a $100,000 grant which will be given to a promising scientist who embodies the future of leadership in Lyme disease research. The award recipient will be an emerging researcher who has identified a defined approach to improved diagnostics or therapies for Lyme disease. Important criteria include demonstrated professional and scientific leadership in the biomedical sciences, ability to execute, and a strong supporting scientific rationale for the project. Applicants must be affiliated with an academic, research or industry organization.
“Our goal is to make Lyme disease easy to diagnose and simple to cure,” points out Bonnie Crater, vice president of Bay Area Lyme Foundation’s Board of Directors and the leader of its science and research team. “We look forward to recognizing and supporting an up-and-coming scientist whose work will accelerate medical breakthroughs for this overlooked disease.”
